Scoliosis Association, Inc. (SAI) is a nonprofit organization that provides information, help, and referrals to scoliosis patients, their families, and medical professionals through national support groups, information hotlines, and a publication called Backtalk. The Association offers videos, books, special articles, fact sheets in English and Spanish, and other useful resources. In addition, SAI raises funds for scoliosis research and sponsors spine conferences that update and inform patients, families, and medical professionals about the current status, management, and treatment of scoliosis and related spinal conditions. The National Scoliosis Foundation (NSF) is a nonprofit organization that promotes public awareness and medical research about scoliosis. NSF provides education and support for patients and healthcare professionals through videos, books, brochures, local chapters, conferences, and postural screening training sessions. NSF can also help establish a scoliosis screening program for adolescents in your local schools. The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) is a professional organization for health care professionals who treat scoliosis and serves as a de facto certification body for scoliosis surgeons. You should check with the SRS to verify that your preferred surgeon is a member; an updated listing of all SRS members is posted on their website. The website also contains graphics and x-ray examples to help explain scoliosis, as well as a glossary of scoliosis terms.
